Post processing and file management is a big step to bring your images to life. During this session your instructor will run through the key basics of cropping, exposure, white balance, lens correction, item selection and file management. Some of the skills will also assist you in preparing your files for print.
While we will be using Adobe Bridge, Camera RAW and Photoshop, many of the techniques are available in other brands' post processing programs.

Outcomes will be a familiarity with where to find and how to use the most important tools in Photoshop, key strokes and how to bring out the best in your images.

Join this session for tips on how to use your camera to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way.
We will explore essential settings, gear and techniques to create great images of wildlife and plants.
Key outcomes are selecting the right autofocus and exposure settings and the ability to select and approach wild subjects.

As our subjects are wild we cannot always guarantee their presence but animals such as Cormorants, Herons, Doves, Scrubfowl, Ducks, Fairy-Wrens, Monitors, Skinks, Freshwater Turtles, Wallabies, Spiders and Insects as well as a huge variety of plants inhabit the area, giving us the best chances to hone our photography skills.
Estuarine Crocodiles are a potential subject in the area!

Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Cairns .

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

    The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

    Having always been fascinated about the world both natural and cultural, he found photography to be the perfect medium to express himself. Josh loves learning about the world and the people, places and animals in it and sharing what he sees through his eyes. Josh likes to take his time with his subjects as they gift him the opportunities needed to create his imagery.

    Captured this while participating in CPG action session. We visited the Cairns MX to practice action shots, and was fortunate to capture this. I love taking action/sports photos and this is the first time I have photographed motor cross. Taken with Nikon D7500 with a Nikkor 70-200mm lens, in Aperture mode. Settings were f/4.5, 1/1600 secs, 0.3 exposure compensation, iso 1000.

    For 2 weeks every winter Sydney is lit up with amazing colours and beams of light over the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, and various buildings throughout the city. I captured this photo of the Opera House from across the water at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. I used a slow shutter speed (of 1 sec) to capture light trails from the passing water craft, and I held my iPhone up against my lens to create an artificial reflection on the water.Canon R6ii, RF 70-200mm f2.8 (@ 70mm), 1s, iso 200.

    Photograph taken with Olympus OM-1 and Olympus 100-400mm Lens (100mm 1/1250 @ f/11). No real interesting story here. Just like to shoot the air shows when I can. Takes me back to my days in the Navy and seeing the jets coming and going from Hickam AFB when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor NSY&IMF and would shoot a round of golf at Hickam AFB's Mamala Bay golf course after working on the submarines.
