Nature Photography Meetup

Saturday 19 October
Smithfield - 7:30am - 2 Hours
Joshua Prieto
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way.
We will explore essential settings, gear and techniques to create great images of wildlife and plants.
Key outcomes are selecting the right autofocus and exposure settings and the ability to select and approach wild subjects.

As our subjects are wild we cannot always guarantee their presence but animals such as Cormorants, Herons, Doves, Scrubfowl, Ducks, Fairy-Wrens, Monitors, Skinks, Freshwater Turtles, Wallabies, Spiders and Insects as well as a huge variety of plants inhabit the area, giving us the best chances to hone our photography skills.
Estuarine Crocodiles are a potential subject in the area!

Loved the event, it provided me with more confidence navigating my camera and equipment. I captured a few fantastic images and cannot wait to add more to my collection! Josh provided great guidance to everyone and dedicated time to everyone, despite the large number of people attending the event.

The event was good, informative to how to get the best photo, pity the clouds come over, but they did disperse later in the evening... I did get some good photos from it as well... Of the sessions I have been to, Josh is very helpful and tries to get to everyone to assist, there was a few of us and I found that I was standing waiting for assistance, not a long time, maybe less people or two assistants, depending on the size of the group...

Thanks, Joshua, for the photography lesson. He is very helpful and knowledgeable. The class just seemed a little basic. It would be awesome if you could clarify this before any course. But thanks anyway, I had fun

I thought it was really good - it was my first exposure to Adobe photo processing packages and I can now see that there are many things that are quite technical and perhaps beyond me (or I would not have the time to process to that extent), but many things I want to do. Thanks Josh - nicely done.

the course was fantastic - i learn something new each time i come to these events...finally starting to understand the relationship between all those camera lightingy settings (i think). It was fun learning how to adjust your Fstop settings to control depth of field.

Wonderful sunrise at this small, beautiful marina in Sydney and was lucky enough to capture it from my hotel room, while in Sydney for work. Taken with Nikon D7500 and 24-70mm lens. Settings were f/11, 1/125sec and iso100

I wanted to watch a beautiful sunrise and hopefully take a decent photo or two, so I got up early and trekked out to Trinity Beach. As I sat there taking photos and testing out different settings there was a boat, some kayaks and a paddle boarder scooting across my view. In the beginning it annoyed me that they kept getting in my photos but after reviewing one I thought actually that silhouette looks really good. The ones with silhouettes turned out to be the better photos. Some of my best photo

I was driving past on a regular drive to work, but on this particular morning, all the fire station doors were open which is a rare sight. I had to double back around the roundabout to stop to take the photo.

I heard there was a flock of Bohemian waxwing (Bombycilla garrulus) at Howbridge Cemetery Atherton. Being a cemetery setting respect and care was taken using long lens from footpath. This bird is extremely photogenic and looks like a painting, the feathers are so fine the photos of them appear to be over edited but all I do is maybe crop and lightning.I always shoot in Raw info here Canon 7D 400mm f5.6 1/250, ISO500

I setup bird feeders at home including a hummingbird feeder. They are super active and are use to me being close to them so I grabbed my Canon R5 with my Canon 70-200mm f2.8 lens and placed myself within 8 feet from the feeder rendering great closeup shots while they feed and the late afternoon sun gives this Rufous hummingbird that beautiful glow
